A beautiful conceptual collaboration between the Northern Irish composer and the Bristol orchestral ensemble of professional disabled and non-disabled musicians mixing analogue, digital and assistive instruments, the music evoking human links to nature and shared beginnings in the universe. It’s a subtle, gentle unfolding rather than one that might explode with a Big Bang. Conducted by Charles Hazelwood, the pieces build gradually, particularly the title track, in which, with superb control by singer Victoria Oruwari begins with non-verbal vocals to express a sense of slow awakening and evolution, tying in with the 10-minute opening track, The Universe Before Matter, and later, We Are Part Mineral. Other standouts with musical flourish include Wild Animal and If After Weeks of Early Sun. An subtle, immersive experience that requires listening from start to finish to appreciate the full scope of textures and sounds brought together, though with other standouts from exquisite bird-like vocals, rippling orchestral strings, merging later with drums and keyboards. A natural progression from previous work by both parties, including Hannah Peel’s last album, Fir Wave. Out on Real World.
