Warmly engaging debut of shoegaze from the Chicago indie-rock trio of Penelope Lowenstein (guitar, vocals), Nora Cheng (guitar, vocals), and Gigi Reece (drums) in this album produced by John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth). You can hear clearly hear the influence of those classic bands, also as Steve Shelley and Lee Ranaldo play along on the songs Billy and Beautiful Song, and there’s clearly echoes of My Bloody Valentine on Bog Bog 1. A very likeable release if these bands are your bag, with other standouts include single Anti-glory, the jittery and stormy The Fall of Horsegirl, Option 8, World of Birdnoculars and World of Pots and Hands. There’s a short, ethereal piano number called The Guitar Is Dead 3, but that’s just for fun, also the strings and distortion pedals are so very alive here. Out on Matador Records.
