The Liverpool and Widnes-raised artist returns with a mesmeric and uplifting 11th album that has a variety of previous elements - electronica, psychedelia and acid folk, but above others this is a fabulous pop record in her own unique style, and even more so in that it’s also inspired by Lebanese torch songs, 1980s Russian Aerobics records and Australian punk. The album is doted with beautiful, ethereal, otherworldly qualities, opener Heartlow, the title track and Lux especially, come all a flutter with flute samples and shimmering bells, while The Revolution of Super Visions, previously highlighted on our New Songs section, has echoes of early 80s Bowie disco thump, and glam-era Black Cherry Goldfrapp, Weavers’ vocals also soaring in a Kate Bush style. Stages of Phrases opens with a feel of Georgio Moroder and Philip Oakley’s Electric Dreams before evolving into a pop-krautrock hybrid. Modern Reputation is an avant-garde electronic piece of straight-talking feminism, while Sunset Dreams is a jittery oddball of funk and boings, and closer Solarised is a slow disco number with fabulous undercurrents of keyboards. Refreshingly original, eccentric, ethereal pop that really takes flight. Available via Bandcamp and on Fire Records.
