Beautiful experimental classical and electronica by the vocalist and multi-instrumentalist from Iceland’s Sigur Rós, in his latest solo release, a cinematic, evocative work capturing the landscape of his homeland but also a utopian vision in a climate threatened world. As he describes it: “I imagined First Light as a momentary fantastical, over-the-top, utopian world where everyone and everything lives together in everlasting peace and harmony. Choosing beauty over disorder, hope over fear, our universal divine angel guardians watching over us and connecting us all as one through love, melody, and music.” Across the 17 tracks its a listen-through experience, from the perky flutes and synths of opener Flicker to the bookend parallel final Flutterby with violins and other classical strings rising. Cherry Blossom offers gorgeously mellow piano, In Plain View feels like raindrops, while Floweret has thunderous drums. Like hiking through a musical landscape of breathtaking views. Out on Myndstream / Lakeshore Records.
