Third album in three years after Cooler Returns and Football Money by the four-piece indie band from Toronto, with wistful, melancholy, carefully observed flighted numbers packed with images from tales of corrupt mayors, Kennedy curses, sex tapes, and deer rifles. These are compact numbers, lazily sounding, fragile but muscular, driven by singer/guitarist Jeremy Gaudet with a Stephen Malkmus-style vocal delivery. They are the kind of sounds that sound unremarkable at first, but strangely grow on you as clever lines emerge and melodies begin to catchily enter your bloodstream, filled with detail like a clever indie film. Standouts include Unspeakable Things, Parasite II, The Sound of Music, Night Vision, Contract Killers, The Extra Sees The Film, and The Masked Singer. Unobtrusively clever, subtle, and rich image. Out on Sub Pop.
