LA’s Shana Cleveland and co return with a fourth, self-titled LP of wonderful, atmospheric numbers of gentle, surf-noir folk-psychedelia of tremendous melody, rich vocal harmony, and guitar and sitar-pedal sheen. Along with bassist Lena Simon, and keyboardist Alice Sandahl, singer and guitarist Cleveland have also found a rich collaboration with Adrian Younge, who is better known for working in hip hop on and other genres, but has added a great dimension to their sound. Standout tracks include Watching Cartoons, I Won’t Hesitate, In The Country, and The Pines, but the entire album is filled with classy songwriting, poise, elegance and a retro sound that also emanates originality. Out on Hardly Art.
