A dazzlingly high-octane, white-knuckle ride of a debut album by the New York-based electronica-punk-hip-hop-hardcore-noise-rock band, who push the musical boundaries with express vocal delivery and double drummers. Produced by vocalist Bret Kaser along with Connor Kleitz, there’s an avalanche of dizzying sampling and breakbeats and frenetic percussion by drummers Danny Eberle and Ilan Natter. It’s a listening that feels like clambering some big dipper with an overdose of speed and simply clinging on. The sheer energy, skill, originality and invention is palpable, and times seems this seems like an entire reinvention of drum’n’ bass. With 12 tracks in just over 30 minutes, this is a blistering whirlwind of a release, with almost no tracks over three minutes. Standouts include Love Will Redeem You, The Heart, Milky Max, the comparatively pedestrian Death Lurking (with Izzy Da Fonseca) closer Toxin Dodger and In The Wawa. The Sermon goes full punk and My Wife and the Goblin speeds even further towards death metal, but by then it seems like a natural progression. Surely doubly exciting live, this is startling debut with many extra sugars stirred in. Out on Partisan Records.
