Their recent single Shining Armor was recently a Song of The Day, but the new LP by the Atlanta and LA indie band is rich in inventive, playful, post-punk, psych-rock and shoegaze, with parallels at times to the excellent Deerhoof. Guitarist-vocalist Livvy Bennett, keyboardist Michael Hunter, bassist Noor Khan and drummer Dylan Hill almost tip-toe into the album with gentle opener Frog 2, then immediately follow with Mythical Bonds, a standout alongside Shining Armour as clever, arrhythmical, proggy guitar post-punk. Little Robot is decorated with eccentric flourishes, further beautiful vocals, guitar riffs, and keyboard twinkles, while You Know I Know is more dreamy shoegaze. Further contrast comes in the gentle, delicate, dreamy It Hurts, as the album glides into mostly more mellow territory. Full of surprises, originality and playful invention, a gem of an album. Out on Fire Talk.
