This second LP by the London indie band is again inventively inspired by city life, but feels edgier, more melancholy and mercurial, dotted with great melodies, but also lyrics from snatched speech, texts, capturing fragmented thoughts of an underground, young, seething, frustrated, isolated generation. Key To City reflects this as it builds with beautiful chord changes, evolving melody and riffs, while Closer is cleverly offbeat and melancholy. There’s So Many People That Want To Be Loved is a slow, confident, wonderfully candid lead single shining a light on loneliness nicely bringing in orchestral strings alongside a variety of lead guitar sounds, and Let The Lights On is a more upbeat indie number of love and longing. Final three tracks Quit While You’re Ahead, Screaming In the Rain, and Again are slower more contemplative. A band strong on maturity, variety and dark, unflinching honesty. Out on Domino as well as their Bandcamp page.
