Country, pop, rock psych, and blues all merge seamlessly in this fabulous, defiant, soaring new LP by the Nashville star who wrote these 10 songs, after a six-day magic mushroom session with husband/collaborator Jeremy Ivey. The sound has the expansive landscape feel of where the songs were recorded – Angel Olsen producer Jonathan Wilson’s Topanga Canyon studio in California. Price’s career has risen since her 2016 debut Midwest Farmer’s Daughter, and from rock guitar to organ, on the meaty opener Been To The Mountain, to Light Me Up, Radio featuring guest co-vocalist Sharon Van Etten, the glorious Change of Heart, the sparser piano and acoustic guitar number Hell In The Heartland which has a Fleetwood Mac quality, the strutting Beatles-esque chord changes on Anytime You Call (featuring Lucius), all the way to tragic tale Lydia, and closer Landfill, this is a triumphant record of heartbreak and recovery with Price at the peak of her powers. Superb. Out on Loma Vista Recordings.
