Second album by the New York duo of drummer and founding LCD Soundsystem member Pat Mahoney and singer Dennis McNany, aka Jee Day in a work that builds beautifully in that distinctive DFA style of art rock and dance music. Opener Your Nails Have Grown is a gradual growing with a swirl of jazz sax in the mix, while the title track puts down a strong marker with an instinctive theme where Mahoney’s deep voice has a distinct presence and has echoes of the Babybird aka Stephen Jones. The percussive catchy Marching Orders was a previous Song of the Day, and the slower electronica song Hotel at Home is a bewildering dreamlike quality with as a flux of voices intertwine towards the end. Other standouts include Cluttered World and The Conversation. The strength of their sound, like LCD Soundsystem is a momentum of rhythm and frenzied energy decorated with offbeat quirkiness. Out on Loaded Records / Skint Records.
