Released in September, classy, meticulously crafted, intelligent, warm Americana mix of folk, rock, pop and country by the Philadelphia duo of vocalist Devin Tuel and multi-instrumentalist Stephen Harms in this sixth LP, and following 2022’s Old Kind of Magic. It’s immediately engaging, timeless songwriting with the opening title track, Tuel’s voice honey-toned a beautiful gospel-tinged piano melody and chord changes, as the album broadens out into electric, acoustic, and 12-string guitars, Hammond B3 organ, tambourines, and galvanizing bass and drums. Other standouts include the Carpenters-esque, soulful Follow Me Round, the slow, stylish pedal-steel country of Borrowing Time, the heartfelt love song I Wanna Thank You, and the gentle, warm, soul-funk Bill Withers vibe of Goin’ Nowhere, but this is all crisp, classy work, including the gorgeous, closing acoustic track, The Garden. Out on Different Time Records.
