The Charlatans – Different Days
Hotly anticipated follow-up to Modern Nature boasts the lush production job of its predecessor with added zip. A stellar cast of guests includes Johnny Marr, Paul Weller, The Other Two from New Order, and Lambchop's Kurt Wagner.
The Charlatans – Plastic Machinery
Jane Weaver – Modern Kosmology
Carried over from last week … after the excellent The Silver Globe and Amber Light, Weaver presents another slab of psychedelic pop. The krautrock influence is once again lightly worn but the space echo has been dialled down in favour of plaintive mono synths and less effects-laden vocals. Highly recommended.
Jane Weaver – Slow Motion
Resistance Radio – The Man In The High Castle Album
Another of last week's releases worth a listen is this TV show compilation curated by Sam Cohen and Dangermouse. Essentially a covers album of pre-1962 material, it boasts some impressive contributions from Beck, Angel Olsen, Grandaddy, Michael Kiwanuka and Kelis.
Kelis – Who's Lovin' You
The Beatles - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of arguably the first concept album, Giles Martin (son of George) has been let loose in the Abbey Road vaults. The original stereo mix of the album was a hasty afterthought so his new mix will be the of interest, and there's a wallet-busting multi-format box set for the completists.
The Beatles – Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds (Take 1)
Kraftwerk – 3D
It's 14 years since we've had any new music from Kraftwerk. Given that a late burst of creativity from Ralf Hütter seems unlikely, we should be thankful for a trawl through what could inadequately be described as a live art project. Having seen this show I would recommend the BluRay version if you're lucky enough to have a 3D player.
Kraftwerk - The Robots (3D) - Video Edit
This week's selection is by Michael Moloney, aka llamalpaca from the vinyl-only record and design store, Chameleon, with additions by The Landlord.
