Fresh, tasty and uplifting, the Melbourne quartet’s sophomore album, and first LP for five years. is a mischievous, playful legume dish finding its roots in lo-fi pop, 60s garage rock and postpunk, packed with vibrant notes of The Kinks, Dandy Warhols, and Belle & Sebastian. Following their debut When the Tree Bears Fruit (2019) fourpiece of drummer Carolyn Hawkins Stella Rennex on guitar and saxophone, Paris Richens on bass, and Rebecca Liston on keyboards all continue to intertwine with smiling, zestful, fun-filled energy, and all variously sing, often together and in unison. Highlights include The Light (a former Song of the Day) Turn To Love, the giggly opener Monument, the zippy, but also slightly melancholy Placeholder, the 60s retro organ feel of Turn To Love, Clear Blue Sky, and The Babble, a playful refernce to the Wordle game but with a musical nod to Ray Davies, and the psychedelic closer Kutastha. Nurtured with joy and sunshine. Out on Upset The Rhythm.
