The second album by the Amsterdam indie quartet continues their breezy, upbeat style, but with double-edged humour, riffing on pandemic lockdown but also on the brand name of British motorway services, familiar to any band touring. There are glimpses of this on the video for the lovely I’m Not Easy To Like, shown below. There’s an assertive tone to this album, a positive approach seeking to stamp out negativity, without denying the difficulties that life has thrown at musicians and more in recent times. The opener You Don’t Want This includes the line “Forget all your reasons / Try to figure out what you really want now.” Through thick and thin what clearly endures is Pip’s very strong creative relationship with her brother and guitarist Tender. It Should Have Been Fun and Different Tune strike a more melancholy note, but perhaps the best track, Keep It Together, skips along beautifully.
