The virtuoso experimental Texas rock band fronted by James Petrali join old friend and singer/ guitarist formerly of Oakland’s Once and Future Band in a pacy tapestry of cleverly interwoven psych, prog, funk, jazz and rock, with added echoes of Steely Dan. With this hybrid feel, full of jazz chores and inflections as well as unpredictable, yet catchy melodies, this is classy work, brimming with restless changes and great, melancholy lyrics and wistful melodies, highlights include the funky Blood, Tivoli, Dislocation, Ashley Goudeau, Complaining in Heaven, and the perky closer Ugly Man Suit. Brilliant musicianship from start to finish. Out on Bella Union.
