Smooth, enjoyable, engaging, approachable funky pop by the 28-year-old Californian with a variety of influences with a summery, catchy, carefree-feel collection on this second LP. Sprinkled with interesting sounds from cowbells to flutes, is is a pick’n’mix of styles. There’s funk disco to mainstream pop, but she’s also not afraid to reference the likes of Tame Impala, MGMT on the more experimental dreaminess of Cherries & Cream. Standouts here include Cinderella, the lazy style of Motorcycle, or Alone in Miami, or Soup, or the stompy playlful pop of Kangaroo (“Call it an itch, been waiting for this/ I'm good at plaguing you with my big ideas”) but most of all the infectiously catchy Toro. A likeable, fun presence with an easy, natural presence and a voice that can also really soar. Out on Island/UMG.
