A wonderfully original, vibrant collaboration between the Rotherham electronica experimentalist/producer and the Acholi fiddle player, inspired by a residency in Kampala and building on 2020’s album File Under UK Metaplasm. The interweaving instrumentals, partly improvised, come from Treanor creating an instrument that explored the tunings and sounds of the a'dungu, an arched harp, and the nah or nag, also accompanied by Ocen playing his rigi rigi, the a single string violin. Brilliantly different and striking at each turn, the whole release is worth some time, but standouts include the striking rhythms of opener Bunga Blue, and Naasacaade with its chiming bells; the twacks, boings and squeaks of As It Happens, the looping violin of The Dead Centre, the dance-like fusion of electronica and violin on Rigi Rigi, and the manic mix of vocals and rhythm on closing track Remo Ron. Fantastic. Out on the Kampala’s great Nyege Nyege Tapes label.
