An unprecedented five albums landing simultaneously without warning, and with a temporary free download period on the mysterious London collective’s website, producer Inflo (Dean Josiah Cover) and co have again brought untold riches in soul, funk, gospel, jazz, RnB, hip-hop, experimental and contemporary classical. There are 56 new songs to dip into and there are many gems to be found. The album 11, starting with Glory, is perhaps the most immediately accessible in the soul genre, while Aiir, a sequel to the contemporary classical Air album from earlier this year, is the most specialised in taste, but still very rewarding. Untitled (God) mixes gospel, folk, soul, classical and more, is a 21-song sequel to the 2020 albums Untitled (Rise) and 2020 Untitled (Black Is)., with 21 tracks such as Love Will Free Your Mind a beautiful acoustic offering, great rapping on Free and piano-led Never Feel Fear, among many, many God-praising tracks. Earth is particularly rich in African drumming and vocal harmonies such as on The Lords With Me, or Power, and Stronger is perhaps the standout. Today & Tomorrow meanwhile leans more towards psychedelic funk, with lots of fuzzy guitar, and one typically strong track is The Jungle. Sault represent a pure, brilliant collective of music for the hell, or indeed the divine joy of it, and while a five-album drop might seem like a lengthy lack of self-editing, it is instead another fabulous offering of free-spirited talent unleashed. Let’s have more. But perhaps not just yet. Five albums is a lot to digest. Out on Forever Living Originals. See all their albums on Bandcamp here.
