Just the ticket – a terrific album of gentle, elegiac, psychedelic beauty by Jason Pierce – seven songs yet this uplifting, expansive space krautrock has a swirling orchestra of multiple instruments, many played by him, with his emotional, but easy vocal delivery that at times echoes The Only Ones’ Peter Perrett. Standouts include Always Together With You, the train-evoking The Mainline Song, Let It Bleed (for Iggy), The A Song (Laid In Your Arms) and the country-style Crazy. With multiple brass, keyboards and strings, jazz, classical, country, krautrock, psych and more, it sounds like a mishmash in theory, but in practice there’s a wonderful balance of complexity and a simplicity here. Out on Bella Union.
