The third and perhaps best yet album by the Swedish post-punk mischief makers fronted by the charismatic Sebastian Murphy, with a fusion of rock, punk, electronica and funk and packed with punchy, ironic, humorous lyrics, clever guitar riffs and keyboard sounds. The male psyche is constantly a target of pardoy, and picks of the bunch include the supremely catchy portrayal of our non-evolution in Troglodyte (see also closing track Return to Monkey), Baby Criminal, which has echoes of Shrimp Shack from debut album Street Worms, Punk Rock Loser, Big Boys featuring Sleaford Mods’ Jason Williamson, the droll, talky Punk Rock Loser, and the fierce high energy of Ain’t No Thief, yet another song with the token shrimp reference in the lyrics. There are many parallels in their sound with other bands from Eels to Gorillaz, G. Love & Special Sauce to Devo to Electric Six, but, after the death of original founding guitarist Benjamin Vallé in October last year, it’s good the cave cellar can brew up a potent and enormously fun mix. Out on YEAR0001.
