Following 2020’s acclaimed album Saint Cloud, Alabama-raised, Kansas City-based singer-songwriter Katie Crutchfield returns with a strong, solid, steady release that sits comfortably in the middle ground of Americana, pop and country. Recorded in Texas, Opener 3 Sisters has an engaging melody with the lyric ““I make a living crying, it ain’t fair”, though isn’t a heartbreaker. Evil Spawn has stirring, Springsteen-like quality, Ice Cold is classic country-blues-rock. Standouts are perhaps the gentler, banjo-flecked Right Back To It with MJ Lenderman, the semi-talking country single Bored, the love song Lone Star Lake (set in her home location state of Kansas), The Wolves, and the closing title track. Out on ANTI Records.
