After a whopping 38 years’ absence, Zambia’s pioneers of zamrock (their name an acronym We Intend To Cause Havoc) return with their heady and wonderful mix of psychedelic rock, reggae, Afrobeat and funk. Formed in the 1970s in Zambia’s post-independence period but breaking up in after 1984 during the country’s economic collapse and political turbulence, it’s a delight to see the return of original founders members Emanyeo "Jagari" Chanda on lead vocals an Patrick Mwondela on keyboards, with new musicians and guest vocalists. Standout among these is Sampa The Great on the single Avalanche of Love, a previous Song of the Day, but there are many delights to sample here in a release that’s as much fun as their classic 1975 album Lazy Bones, such as the agile fusion number Nshingilile, or the full funk and rock, including old-school synths and organ sound such as on opening track By The Time Your Realize, or Waile, or Stop The Rot, as well as the reggae feel of Streets of Lusaka. It’s a album delivers meaty sounds and delightful tunes, culminating in wonderfully positive mantra expressed in closing track Message from WITCH.
