A mouthful of a title but another striking, genre-spanning fifth LP by the unique Knoxville-raised Sean Bowie, whose extraordinary non-gender presence adorns this mix of thrumming postpunk, indie R&B, trip-hop, funk, glam, sensual soul and psychedelia. There’s sa trong, driving momentum and bold bass line almost throughout, with themes include identity, childhood, spirituality, particularly in Heaven Sounds Us Like A Hood, Fear Evil Like Fire (“The boy you are today ain’t from a lack of pain”) and the sensual Echolalia. Other standouts include Lovely Sewer, which begins like a classic Suicide track before breaking into soaring vocals, the acoustic guitar-infused Meteora Blues, and the richly orchestrated closer Ebony Eye. Indefinable, dramatic, and forever creatively agile. Out on Warp Records.
