After yesterday's Amy Winehouse, tears of another taste from another enthralling voice – Elizabeth Fraser formerly of the Cocteau Twins. This song, from 1998's Mezzanine album, had originally been intended, by Andrew Vowles aka Mushroom to be a melody sung by Madonna, and sent her the demo. But the other two Massive Attack members, Robert Del Naja and Grantley Marshall thought Fraser was the perfect voice for it, and she in turn wrote the lyrics, inspired by French philosopher Gaston Bachelard. This dreamy, ethereal, trip-hop pop became a hit, has been used on several films and TV programmes, and has been covered by other artists including Elbow, José González and Newton Faulkner.

Fearless on my –

Fearless on my breath
[Chorus]
Teardrop on the fire
Fearless on my..
[Verse 3]
Water is my eye
Most faithful mirror
Fearless on my breath
Teardrop on the fire
Of a confession
Fearless on my breath
Most faithful mirror
[Chorus]
Fearless on my breath
Teardrop on the fire
Fearless on my breath
You're stumbling a little
You're stumbling a little.
