Alluringly atmospheric with a driving rhythm, this new indie psych number by the London-based multi-instrumentalist is all about balancing a positive view and keeping focus within dark times, inspired by a quote from Italian philosopher Antonio Gramsci. The early 20th-century Marxist suggested that it is best to have “pessimism of the intellect and optimism of the will", as also quoted by Noam Chomsky in a 2003 interview.
Cheshire’s influences include Can, Neu, Broadcast, John Maus, Jane Weaver, early Pink Floyd, Echo & The Bunnymen, PJ Harvey and Laurie Anderson. More of his work can be found on Soundcloud and Bandcamp.
Hush your inner monologue
Still your racing hungry eye
Simmer down your toxic thought
Settle deep inside this glove
Down down down
Underneath your cloaking spell
Peering through the portal glass
Light that drip feeds through the flood
This is for the ones you love
Down down down
Oh tunnel vision
You move to the light
If you're feeling the decline
Weighing on your scrambled mind
If you're up there on the wire
Peering deep into the fire
Down down down
Oh tunnel vision
You move to the light
