A belter of a new song from Birmingham’s truly great independent postpunk band. Fronted by founder singer and lyricist Robert Lloyd, ironic twists of fate come with fabulous riffs, pace and rhythm changes and cross-tangled narratives. Lloyd was originally a member of The Prefects until 1979. Backing vocals are by drummer Fliss Kitson, with Andreas Schmid on bass, and James Smith on guitar. The song comes from the forthcoming album Four Against Fate, out on Tiny Global Productions.
The King Kong reference in the song refers to a former statue of the famous ape at the Birmingham Bullring, and is featured in the brilliant documentary about the ups and downs of the band, King Rocker, featuring longtime fan and standup Stewart Lee. More about the film, and Nightingales music can be found here.
