Who better, and who indeed has written such a nailed-on brilliant song about coronavirus lockdown than the super-sharp lyricist, prolific songwriter and comic book artist from New York’s Lower East Village? This is Bob Dylan- and Leonard Cohen-esque in its wit, humour and scope, circling candidly on the personal experience and frustration of having to stay indoors, but also slipping seamlessly into images of “rats without snacks”, and the razor-wire observations on city streets, politics, banks, Trump and more, then ending on a positive note as to how all of this might change society.
Jeffrey Lewis is a tour de force, a one-man creative machine who tours and writes and draws endlessly, each performance a generous, spontaneous gift of uniqueness. See more of his work via his website.
