What a perfect day, alongside hailing the tickling stick and five-hour shows, to say that the sadly departed comedian was also a huge 1960s pop star – and his first hit reveals a surprisingly beautiful tenor voice. Whether or not Doddy tickled you with his eccentric, crazy-hair persona and rapid-fire jokes, his endlessly inventive chatterbox comic genius is widely acknowledged, as is the down-to-earth likability of a man who was born and died in the same house in Knotty Ash, Liverpool. But also let's not forget his enormous music success in the that decade, including the song Tears, which was the third-biggest selling song of that decade, as well as of course, his signature tune, Happiness. But let's honour him with this one, perhaps classier than the others, and penned by the French composer Miarka Laparcerie and Irish lyricist Jimmy Kennedy. Rest in peace Doddy, before you begin your next five-hour show in the sky …
Love is like a violin
With its strings around your heart
Soft and sweet as dreams begin
Sadly crying when you part
Make my heart your violin
Play it now and tell me this
In the music of a kiss
Let me hear you say "I love you"
(Instrumental Break)
Make my heart your violin
Play it now and tell me this
In the music of a kiss
Let me hear you say "I love you".
