Originally from the synth-pop duo Soft Cell's 1982 debut album, Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret, and a no3 hit, today's song is actually a remixed, and also live version from a decade later, when Almond made a triumphant tour – 12 Years of Tears – performed with full orchestra at The Royal Albert Hall. Fame and drugs meant Soft Cell as a formal duo with David Ball didn't last beyond the first album (despite staying in touch and occasionally do reunions), but Almond has remained a constant star on the circuit, doing emotional torch songs from drawn from various sources. Say Hello remains one of his best – a bitchily upbeat yet melancholic attempt to end a dysfunctional relationship, in which, you imagine, you can't quite completely say goodbye at all.
