Now let's walk in this direction. Written by Barry Mann, Phil Spector, and Cynthia Weil, this 1964 hit is heavy on the sound effects, and characteristic of the Spector production wall of sound, but Ronnie's voice and unsinkable personality, fresh from a tour with the Rolling Stones in the UK, shines through with what turned out to be just one take. She was probably picturing the British weather as she sang it. The song, less about the weather, more about looking for the right person to love, was later a B-side recorded by the The Walker Brothers and a hit for Jay and the Americans, but it's hard to beat this version. Ronnie Spector, a huge influence on thousands of female performers, including the late Amy Winehouse, continues to tour and never offers a dull moment.
