This Burt Bacharach and Hal David classic has been covered many times by artists as diverse as The Stranglers, Cliff Richard, Cyndi Lauper, Stan Getz, Gabrielle and the Average White Band, but perhaps none as good as the original by Warwick in 1964 for her album Make Way For Dionne Warwick. Sophisticated, at once halting then flowing, wistful and defiant, punctuated by that sharp trumpet and divine voice, it's always passing in the musical consciousness and, ironically, forces you, not to walk on by, but to always stop and listen.
