With the passing of two great directors, Nicolas Roeg and Bernardo Bertolucci, a beautiful piece of music from a film by the former, starring David Bowie but with music by the Japanese composer. The Man Who Fell To Earth was originally planned to contain work by Bowie, but Stomu Yamashta, also a percussionist and keyboard player from Kyoto, turned out to be a perfect fit for the film with music that is eerie, ghostly, exquisitely beautiful, but of course also otherworldly. John Philips wrote the other half of the original score. These two sound can respectively also be found on Yamash’ta’s albums Freedom Is Frightening and Soundtrack From Man From The East.
