Loyle Carner – Yesterday's Gone
Carner is getting a huge push of late - you may have heard his catchy music collector-themed NO CD by now. The gospel-tinged The Isle Of Arran demonstrates that beyond the radio friendliness there's a touch of quirkiness to the rapper's work.
Loyle Carner – The Isle Of Arran
Foxygen – Hang
Lush sounding pop featuring a symphony orchestra throughout and guest appearances from Steven Drozd of The Flaming Lips, as well as Brian and Michael D’Addario of The Lemon Twigs.
Foxygen – Follow the Leader
AFI – The Blood Album
This stadium-filling follow-up to 2013's Burials is AFI's 10th album and definitely at the pop end of the emo/alt-rock spectrum.
AFI - White Offerings
Menace Beach - Lemon Menace
Best and oddest blurb of the week goes to Menace Beach: Lemon Memory is in part an effort to lift a citrus-based curse Ryan and Liza believe was placed on their house, using the hex-breaking power of music. With bad things happening at home, from a giant rodent infestation to gangs breaking in to attack their landlord, Menace Beach left Leeds behind clutching a copy of Mysterious Cults - a book they’d picked up while on tour - and hotfooted it to Ibiza to start writing the follow-up to Ratworld. Available on guess-which-colour vinyl in a Scratch'n'Sniff sleeve!
Menace Beach - Maybe We'll Drown
Mick Harvey – Intoxicated Woman
The solo artists, former Bad Seed and multi-collaborator (including PJ Harvey) returns with volume 4 of his Serge Gainsbourg Translations album with a host of excellent guest singers. It includes a version of Je T’aime… (Moi non plus) – titled Ich Liebe Dich… (Ich Dich Auch Nicht) with German chantreuse Andrea Schroeder. The album was originally due in November, but Mute are finally releasing it on 20 January. Here’s the album sampler:
Paul Weller Reissues
When it comes to sourcing his solo albums on vinyl, Weller fans are a long-suffering lot. The good news is the self-titled LP and Wildwood are out on Friday with two more to follow shortly. The bad news is that these are expensive for represses and offer little in added value.
Paul Weller - Wild Wood
This week's selection is by Michael Moloney, aka llamalpaca from the vinyl-only record and design store, Chameleon, with additions by The Landlord.
