Trainspotting T2: Original Soundtrack
It's got a lot to live up to – and I'm not just talking about the film. The OST to 1996's Trainspotting was a musical primer whereas this looks like a somewhat moodier selection with three tracks from Auld Reekie's own Young Fathers spliced with Queen, retreads from Iggy & Underworld, and edgy Irish comedy cult outfit The Rubberbandits. Early reviews suggest it works well in the context of the movie.
Young Fathers – Get Up
Cloud Nothings – Life Without Sound
The indie band from Cleveland, Ohio, are back with the follow-up to 2014’s Here And Nowhere Else, on Wichita Recordings. You might be tempted by a green-and-white marbled vinyl format that includes a free poster (featuring one of three randomly selected designs).
Cloud Nothings - Internal World
Ty Segall – Ty Segall
This sometimes noisy self-titled follow-up to Emotional Mugger sees Segall tool up with a full band in the studio, but there's some enjoyable acoustic songs too.
Ty Segall - Break A Guitar
Ariel Pink & Weyes Blood - Myths 002
This is a four-track very-odd-couple collaboration between Ariel Rosenberg and Natalie Mering. Certainly its lead track, Tears on Fire, bodes well for what follows.
Ariel Pink & Weyes Blood - Tears On Fire
Vinyl Reissues:
Bob Dylan – The Bootleg Series Vol 1-3
It’s a very good week for vinyl reissues - this is available for the first time in 25 years and features 58 rare & unreleased songs from 1961-91.
Bob Dylan - Hard Times in New York Town
Buzzcocks – Spiral Scratch EP
This is the 40th anniversary (*gulp*) vinyl reissue of one of the cornerstone releases of punk. Still sounds as fresh as a daisy.
Buzzcocks – Boredom
The White Stripes - Get Behind Me Satan
Third Man have always been extolling the virtues of vinyl but this 2005 album (their fifth in the studio) has heretofore only been fleetingly available on vinyl but is finally getting a proper release – out on Friday.
The White Stripes – Blue Orchid
This week's selection is by Michael Moloney, aka llamalpaca from the vinyl-only record and design store, Chameleon, with additions by The Landlord.
