Stirring, potent folk-country-power-pop by the Texan singer-songwriter and violinist and Highwomen founder, who on this 10th solo album extends her stylistic repertoire with orchestral and almost Radiohead-like guitar atmospherics alongside her expressive, emotive voice. This is most evident in the very potent heartbreak-defiant title track, but there’s plenty more besides on this strong selection of album filled with strong narratives and feelings. Standouts include Empty Cups, Don’t Be Alarmed, the take-me-as-I-am number Bad Behavior, the quietly stirring Fault Lines, the more rocking upbeat Here He Comes, the bluesy, brassy Stupid Love, the 70s-style pop of Lonely At Night, or closer Everything Has Its Time. Her time is still very much now and as the opening track puts, slowly but confidently she’s coming for you like A Hawk For a Dove (“You can call me serious trouble, ‘cos that’s what I want.” You can refuse that? Out on ATO.
