Candid, catchy, straight-up 90s-style pop-rock with a dash of Nashville and Americana and piano ballads in this debut LP by one half of LA’s Best Coast duo in an album that combines climate change metaphor with personal experience. Cosentino’s voice is strong often often at full-throated volume, with some echoes of Alanis Morrissette and Shania Twain, but her lyrics are refreshingly straight to the point, backed with rousing choruses. Among the standouts, on the title track: “This is the hottest summer I can ever remember / 'Cause the world is on fire / And, hey, if we're all dying, then what does it matter? We're a natural disaster.” Or “Imagine if I handled this shit like I used to … I have evolved, you’ve stayed the same,” she sings on It’s Fine. “It's always easy / I hate to sound cliché and cheesy” on Easy, and while these are cliches, somehow they are powerful and effective. Other standouts include Real Life, For A Moment, the rockin’ Calling On Angels and the more intimate closer, I’ve Got News For You. Out on Concord Records.
