Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney’s 10th studio album lovingly covers favourite Mississippi blues standards including by R. L. Burnside and Junior Kimbrough, joined those respective stars’ longtime band members slide guitarist Kenny Brown and bassist Eric Deaton. Recorded at Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound studio in Nashville and inspired by William Eggleston’s favourite Mississippi photograph on its cover, and it’s a authentic faithful and inspiring tribute that will hopefully open more doors the the originals. The 11 songs were recorded in just two afternoons and 10 hours, with a fresh, one-take feel, and bits of studio banter. Highlights include Crawling Kingsnake, Mississippi Fred McDowell’s gorgeous song, Louise, Poor Boy A Long Way From Home and Going Down South. Out on Nonesuch.
