A sparkling, superb retro soul-gospel follow-up to their 2019 debut by Texan guitarist/producer Adrian Quesada and singer-songwriter Eric Burton whose soaring, high voice sizzles with these excellent numbers. His vocal falsetto style and range is certainly comparable to Britain’s David McAlmont and has parallels too with Curtis Mayfield. and as well as soul and gospel, the music touches on symphonic pop, jazz-funk and psychedelia. And it’s an album packed with highlights, including former Song of the Day – More Than At Love Song, the slower paced, shimmeringly beautiful title track written from the perspective of a diamond in the back seat of a Cadillac, Mrs Postman – a tribute to the blue-collar worker, as well as the super-catchy Ice Cream, the slower, shimmering Angel, the uplifting gospel of Hello, all the way to closing track with its rippling piano intro – Rock and Roll. Timeless, top quality throughout, perhaps the very best of the year among many great soul releases. Out on ATO Records.
