After 2018’s EP, a fabulous LP debut of folk, Americana and indie combining the talents of American singer-songwriter trio of Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus, who have each also released three successful solo LPs. They seem to make up a perfect blend songwriting and vocal harmonies, and also each taking turns as lead. The single, Not Strong Enough, is an immediate standout with its emotional power and a bassline that nods to New Order. Another is $20, and Satanist, in which the trio take a verse each, is all about the limits, or not, of what you’d do for a best friend, but perhaps best of all is the beautifully fragile I’m In Love. Other highlights include the quiet potency of Emily I’m Sorry, plus Leonard Cohen, the indie banger Anti-Curse, and the quietly devastating, defiant and beautiful Letter To A Dead Poet. Three artists at the top of their game, and even greater as the sum of their parts. Out on Interscope.
