A magical, serene, dreamily sophisticated and witty psych-pop, lounge and dancefloor new creation by the LA duo of percussionist/singer-songwriter Brijean Murphy (Mitski, Poolside, and Toro y Moi) and multi-instrumentalist/producer Doug Stuart. It’s a fabulous fusion of a release, from the dreamy Euphoric Avenue (“Worlds of beauty and pain / I spy comedies in the most mundane”) to the rippling beats of Bang Bang Boom, the astral drift of Roxy, the breakbeat-bursts of Breathe, the woozy dancefloor of Counting Sheep, and perhaps the highlight track the fabulous stylish funk of Workin’ On It with its sleepily delivered vocals: “I’m so tired of this apathy … I’m working on a better me.” The momentum of the album builds with Scenic Route which continues the disco groove with that distinctively dreamy sound, Roller Coaster leaps into lovely echo rhythms, and also features, alongside other guests, Khruangbin's "DJ" Johnson Jr and sums up the general theme of life’s ups and downs, before the gentle flutey jazz/funk/house/psych/lounge closer, Laura. Fusion of so many different genres has rarely been smoother or more fun. Out on Ghostly International.
