Deliciously understated, intimate, warm folk-pop with a strong Laurel Canyon flavour by the Boston, Mass. artist Claire Cottrill with songs about different sides of charm, platonically, romantically, but also not knowing how long it will last. Her voice that timeless 70s feel of Weyes Blood’s Natalie Mehring, though more muted, and while the lyrics touch on uncertainty and disquiet, there’s something gorgeously comforting about this record, from the gentle slide guitar and soft bass of opener Nomad, the wistful, bouncier single and former Song of the Day Sexy To Someone, the retro piano and woodwind pop of the polite, reflective post-relationship number Thank You, the dreamy Terrapin, the twinkling gentle grooves of Juno, the catchy flutes and cymbals of the gorgeous Add Up My Love, the organ sounds of Echo or the gentle closer Pier 4. A step up again from the more bedroom pop of Immunity and later Sling, her previous albums, this is release of real beauty and maturity. Self-released.
