After recent late-career records by Horace Andy and African Head Charge, another great release on the On-U Sound label, a first by the reggae collective for 40 years, responding to the ongoing unjust Tory UK immigration policy, first introduced by former home secretary and then PM Theresa May. Many of the musicians were originally part of Prince Far I’s backing band until his death in 1983, but the reggae legend’s voice is still present on a couple of tracks, including the opener, Swiftly (The Right One). Some of the those musicians, who have also been touring, include guitarist Crucial Tony, drummer and vocalist Eskimo Fox, and percussionist and vocalist Ranking Magoo). Guest appearances also include Cyrus Richards (musical director for Horace Andy and the Dub Asante Band), Italian synth maestro Gaudi, and fast chat king Daddy Freddy. As well as politically charged lyrics, and produced by Adrian Sherwood, the album is packed with brilliant syncopated dub tunes and sublime bass grooves. Standouts include the beautiful melodica-based Stonebridge Warrior, This Thinking Feeling with Daddy Freddy, the slower number That's More Like It, the classic dub effects-heavy Jubilee Clock, Crown Hill Road, and Whatever It Takes with Denise Sherwood guesting on backing vocals. Rolling back the years with timeless quality, and ongoing relevance. Out on On-U Sound.
