Deftly original, wry, humorous, gently dreamy, brilliantly oddball folk-pop by the London-based Canadian-Serbian artist in this third LP with a theme of tenderness in a desensitising world, playing out tensions between negative cynicism and despair against positive openness and trust. Her style is distinctive, beautifully woozy but also sharp, her lyrics completely atypical, but at the same time fans of Cate Le Bon will also enjoy parallel oodles of inventive oddness, gentle pace and delivery on an album recorded in Margate with old friend Mike Lindsay (of Tunng, and LUMP – his collaboration with Laura Marling). Opener How To Feel Uncomfortable is deliciously and spookily downbeat, Let Them Row gloriously, gorgeously uplifting in its keyboard progressions and melodies, also ghostly and surreal, tinged with subtle background electronic rumblings. Ears Were Growing has a vibrant, nimble-fingered Talking Heads energy and eccentricity. Other standouts include the title track, Singular Coincidence, the slow, retro synth sound pop of Song For Rachel, Dark Side, and the beautiful closing number, Reiteration. Light of touch, a relase uniquely, sighingly beautiful. Out on Full Time Hobby.
