New York-born Los Angeles-based artist Meg Duffy returns with her own distinctive form of electro-pop and Americana folk with very refined, dreamily sung songs that build on her excellent single Aquamarine, previously highlighted here as a Song of the Day. Duffy is joined by Perfume Genius‘ Mike Hadreas for a couple of tracks including the lovely acoustic duet Just to Hear You. Duffy, who has variously worked with Weyes Blood, Big Thief, Angel Olsen and The War on Drugs has elements that run in parallel with these artists, a mature, thoughtful melancholy to her rhythm, seamlessly mixing complexity into the deceptively simple. This particularly comes through on No Difference, while Graves is an exquisitely beautiful acoustic number, as is False Start. Concrete & Feathers has a bluesy, rocky, Neil Young feel, while The Answer leans more towards something akin Elliott Smith, Gold/Rust has a restless, unresolved beauty that undulates its emotions. Weaving in further vocal harmonies, Control also brings in delicate woodwind and strings. Mysterious, delicately beautiful work. Out on Saddle Creek.
