Pure of voice, with gently acoustic accompaniment, perfectly weighted melody and perceptive lyric, a gorgeous new ninth album by the Kentucky folk musician, including a number with Bill Callahan. That particular track, Amberlit Morning, is a standout beauty, one that is set in Brooklyn but contains references to Georges Méliès 1902 silent film A Trip To The Moon. But there are many others to soak in gently, with rich textures of various instrumentats by by producer James Elkington, including the title track, Home, When The Light Is Dying, and the sparse piano of Between Rock and Sky which ponders life’s cycles. From keeping goats and chickens and pondering on cattle to the big questions, a delicious ripple of verdant, rural joy. Out on No Quarter.
