A clever banger of a mesmeric LP, just the fourth in three decades return from the highly influential dance electronica maestro Neil Barnes including guest appearances by Grian Chatten from Fontaines DC and poet Lemn Sissay. The former appears on the forceful Full Way Round, the latter on the righteous Making A Difference. Other standouts include the classic sound of 90s Leftism on Pulse, the wonderful lose-yourself-in dance track Accumulator, Heart and Soul, and City of Synths, with moments of more Kraftwerk-like calm interspersed. Barnes, who now collaborates with Adam Wren, has emerged from a tough time of cancer, divorce, and re-shaping his career as a trained psychotherapist. But there can be no more fun way to rehabilitate than to create such a high-quality dance music album, and this is certainly it. Out on Virgin.
