Experimental, clattering, clanging, sawing, banging, challenging but very rewarding, this is a very alternative, ambitious postpunk full debut album from the Bristol band fronted by vocalist Alastair Shuttleworth and extraordinary guitarist Silas Dilkes, with guest appearances from Katy J Pearson, Holly Hole and Clottie Cream. Vocals range from strange whispers to dry talkies to outrageous screams, and the guitar takes on a range of extraordinary sounds, with chords and melodies could come from the Robert Fripp book of atonal experiment. Standout tracks include Espontaneo, Persuader, Clear, featuring Clottie Cream from Goat Girl, and R.D.C. which, for example, has echoes both of Black Midi and IDLES, but as far as that goes, Lice are wonderfully indescribable. Worth several listens and it grows on with a joyous sense of chaos. Out on Settled Law Records. More of Lice can be enjoyed here on Bandcamp.
