Jason Williamson and Andrew Fearn return with their latest album recorded last July in lockdown, and as ever its filled with topical hard-hitting humour and brilliant bass and beats backing tracks by Fearn. Coronavirus lockdown and post-Brexit Britain is a central theme, and new flavours are added featuring Amy Taylor of Melbourne punks Amyl and the Sniffers on Nudge It (also on another album out this week by Viagra Boys) and British newcomer and solo artist Billy Nomates (aka Tor Maries) on Mork n Mindy, which marries childhood toy and TV nostalgia with housing estate lockdown isolation. There's particular anger at the UK government’s sense of entitlement, epitomised by its devil-may-care approach to the coronavirus crisis (leaving much of the electorate as expendable ‘spare ribs’) with at least two tracks aimed an Boris Johnson and his former adviser Dominic Cummings (Shortcummings). Other standout tracks include All Day Ticket, Elocution, the eerily wistful Fishcakes, and the bleakly brilliant central track, Out There. In short, more of the same, with a formula that hits the nail on the head. Out on Rough Trade Records.
