A sparkling mix of retro disco and 80s dance-pop with echoes of Abba by the American quartet, but also a dash of tragic country by front duo vocalists and co-songwriters Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig who capture many emotions from some recent experiences – motherhood and divorce. Their range is impressive, and have also toured with Roger Waters Sheryl Crow, Harry Styles, Ozzy Osbourne, the War on Drugs, and Brandi Carlile, the latter, with Dave Cobb on production and also adding some vocals as well as Crow. Next To Normal was a striking Song of the Day back in February, but other standouts include the title track, 24, Heartbursts and Dance About It with Crowe and Carlile. The upbeat style and subject matter slows to the more melancholy as the album progresses, with Tears In Reverse a pick, but perhaps most powerful and perhaps even best on the album is the tragically stirring The Man I’ll Never Find. Out on Second Nature Records.
